The United Nations International School (UNIS) was established in 1947, which locates on the bank of East River in New York, with students from 120 countries and regions and the faculty of over 60 countries and regions. The school is dubbed as "small United Nations", where you can hear 35 languages. Sarah Bertrand, a French-American girl, began studying in UNIS when she was four in the year of 2005. Four years' study in UNIS has opened Sarah's mind and changed her thinking with the eye of globalization. Sarah said that she should learn to hear the voices of her classmates and consider the feelings of others on account of their different cultural and traditional backgrounds. When Sarah has some troubles with her classmates, she has her own way to deal with the problem by "talking to each other". Because of the special relationships between UNIS and the United Nations, students in UNIS have opportunities to visit UN headquarters. Following the tenet of UN Charter, UNIS encourages students to love peace, pursue equality and respect others' conventions and cultures. Sarah's parents also graduated in UNIS, and Sarah's mother, Michelle Bertrand, now works in the school. Photo taken on Oct. 27, 2009 shows Sarah. (Xinhua/Shen Hong)
