China's Wind Market Attracts Overseas Giants

Gamesa, Spain's largest wind power generator, announced its first wind-power plant has gone into operation. The plant is located in North China's Tianjin Municipality, with a production capacity of 820 complete sets of wind power equipment.

Gamesa invested six million euros (US$7.61 million) on the 100,000-square meter Tianjn plant. It is Gamesa's second overseas project.

On September 13, Gamesa signed a contract with China Longyuan Electric Power Group Corp. Longyuan will buy 601 sets of wind power generators, accounting for one third of the current amount in China. The contract is the biggest purchase in Asia so far.

Longyuan will provide generators for two projects in North China's Heilongjiang Province and North China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region respectively, and will put them into use by the end of 2008.
