Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited
Wuzhou in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on Sunday, a city
ravaged by its worst case of floods in a hundred years last
month.
Wen first visited soldiers working
to reinforce a major dike and thanked them for their rescue and
salvage efforts.
During his visits to local residents
and farmers whose homes and crops were damaged by the floods, Wen
told local officials to ensure the continued supply of food,
clothing and clean water to them.
Massive floods following heavy rains
hit 26 towns in the city over the last month, affecting more than
1.27 million people and causing heavy economic losses estimated at
tens of millions of US dollars.
