Three Shenzhen hospitals opened special departments Saturday to
provide discounts for migrant workers.
Migrant workers with valid certificates can receive 10 to
50-percent discounts at the Shenzhen Frontier Guards' Clinic, the
Shenzhen Liulian Hospital and Bantian Hospital.
These people have to carry their employee's cards to enjoy cheap
medical treatment. Liulian Hospital at present offers free
registration, outpatient service and specialist consultation and a
20-percent discount for medical checks and a 10-percent discount
for room expenses for hospitalized patients.
The Shenzhen Frontier Guards' Clinic has taken an even bigger step
in implementing the healthcare program for migrant workers by
offering a 30-percent discount for medical treatment and a
15-percent for medicine charges. Medical checks are subject to a
50-percent discount.
Shenzhen hospitals have been the subject of frequent complaints
about high charges. A campaign to help needy people tackle health
problems was launched in Shenzhen to lower medical fees for migrant
workers.
The campaign's organizing committee said it would join hands with
the health bureau, civil affairs bureau and social security
department to issue guidelines on healthcare for migrant
workers.
The guidelines would standardize prescriptions from doctors to curb
high medical costs for migrants. A handbook on discounted medical
treatment will be issued to enable migrants to take advantage of
discounted fees at member hospitals.
