Chongqing Builds Environment-Protection Industry Base
Chongqing, the largest city in western China, will invest 26 billion yuan over the next five years to build a production base for making environmental production products.

The production base covers two square kilometers in northern Chongqing. An additional three square kilometers have been reserved for further expansion. It features development of environmental protection technology, production of environmental protection equipment, pollution-free project design and a display of environmental-friendly products.

The central government and Chongqing Municipality will allocate tens of billions of yuan for the disposal of sewage and garbage dug from the reservoir bed of the Three Gorges in the next few years, providing a good opportunity for businessmen.

However, there were only 141 environmental protection enterprises in Chongqing by the end of 2000. Their combined annual output value was around one billion yuan.

Chinese and overseas investors will be encouraged to participate in developing new environmental protection technology and producing more environmental protection products in the production base.
