East China Province's Exports Grow by 12 Percent in 2001
The eastern province of Jiangsu, one of China's major exporters, reported a 12 percent increase in exports for 2001, according to the provincial foreign trade department.

Statistics show that the province's exports were valued at US$28.87 billion last year, and imports US$22.48 billion, up 13.1 and 12.1 percent from a year earlier respectively.

The province's export value makes up nearly one-tenth of the nation's total.

Overseas-funded enterprises remain the pillar of export growth, as they exported 15.1 billion US$ last year, accounting for 57 percent of the province's total.

Exports of new and hi-tech products also take up a large proportion -- nearly one-quarter of the province's total, according to sources.
