Li Chunyan, a village doctor in a mountainous part of Guizhou Province, arrived in Shanghai on Saturday to express her appreciation to Shanghai Hongkang Hospital, which donated 100,000 yuan (US$12,500) to establish two clinics in her hometown, Shanghai Daily reported.

Li, a 30-year-old Miao minority woman, was named one of this year's 10 Best Youths in the nation and CCTV named her one of the 10 people who moved China in 2005.

She has used her own savings to buy medicine for patients in her clinic, where she has treated about 10,000 patients and helped deliver about 100 babies.

Last year, she was hired as an honorary employee of Shanghai Hongkang Hospital in an effort to promote her stories among local doctors and nurses and sponsor her medical practice in Guizhou.

"The two clinics mean better places for patients to get treatment. I also used the monthly 1,000 yuan subsidy from Hongkang to pay for my patients' medication," Li said.

The local hospital promised Saturday to donate medicine to the clinics and send a medical team to Li's hometown later this year.
