China Pledges Cooperation with Denmark on Environmental Protection

China's top legislator Wu Bangguo said on Wednesday that China is ready to promote cooperation with Denmark on environmental protection and energy saving.

China attaches great importance to energy-saving and environmental protection, and Denmark has advanced technology and management in the field of environmental protection and alternative energy, said Wu in a meeting with Danish Parliament President Christian Mejdahl.

"The two sides have bright prospects for cooperation in this regard," said Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC).

Wu also spoke highly of bilateral relations, saying the two countries have enhanced political mutual trust, achieved fruitful results in trade cooperation and expanded exchanges in various fields.

With regard to parliamentary exchanges, Wu said the NPC will work with the Danish parliament to exchange experiences on lawmaking as well as democratic and legal construction so as to push forward pragmatic cooperation between the two countries.

Mejdahl, who is paying an official good-will visit to China from June 19 to 28, said China plays an increasingly important role in the world and Denmark hopes to lift bilateral ties to a new level.

Mejdahl reiterated Denmark will continue to stick to the one-China policy.
