China's top legislator Wu Bangguo Sunday visited the railway ministry and other departments in Beijing that are playing key role in the fight against freak cold winter in the south.
Wu, president of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress, urged staff of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC) and the Railway Ministry to spare no effort in resuming power supply and transport in the snow-ravaged regions.
"Disaster relief work is the top priority of the whole nation," he said.
Speaking at the SGCC's control center, Wu said the current priorities were fixing electrical equipment and ensuring power supply for residents and railway lines.
At the Railway Ministry control center, he urged officials to give priority to the transportation of coal for power plants, disaster-relief materials as well as food and other essential products.
Wu also visited the Beijing West Railway Station, where he chatted with passengers and urged the staff to improve their service.
