More heavy rain was set to sweep the already rain-soaked south China over the next seven days, raising the possibilities of more floods and reservoir threats, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said on Wednesday.

Most parts of southern China, including Guizhou, southeastern Sichuan and eastern Yunnan, could expect heavy rain or rainstorms during the period, with rainfalls 30 percent to 70 percent more than the average level, the CMA forecast said.

Rain would also hit the northwestern areas of the country and parts of Inner Mongolia from June 13 to 15, helping to ease the drought there, according to the national observatory.

Heavy rains that started to lash the country's south on Sunday have killed two people, damaged crops, triggered floods and threatened reservoir safety.
