Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's olitical Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks during five-day trip to Chongqing, a western municipality, which ended on Saturday.

During the tour, Jia, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, visited industrial parks, colleges and rural townships to see how they cope with the global financial crisis.

He said the central government had adjusted its macro economic control policy in the wake of the crisis, and taken a series of forceful and effective counter-measures.

"So long as we work in accordance with the central government's ecision and deployment, build confidence and actively cope with the crisis, we will surely overcome all difficulties and realize the goal of realizing a steady and relatively fast economic development."

He underlined the importance of providing more job opportunities and training courses for rural migrant workers and college graduates, encouraged them to start an undertaking on their own and pledged to improve the social security system.

While visiting two Taiwan-funded businesses in Chongqing, Jia promised to safeguard their interests and help them tide over the current hardship by adopting more favorable policies.
