Farmer athletes from Taiwan will compete in the upcoming 6th National Farmers Games for the first time, the Fujian-based newspaper Southeast Express reports.
The Taiwanese team will compete in swimming, Chinese chess, and other events like fishing. An art troop from Taiwan will also perform Yang'ge dancing during the opening ceremony of the games.
The games host city Quanzhou lies very close to Taiwan in terms of geographical location and economic and cultural communications.
A trade fair featuring traditional food from across the straits will be held during the games.
There will also be an estimated 500 visitors from overseas including Hong Kong and Macao attending the games, the newspaper said.
The city has enlisted some 5000 volunteers to serve the games.
