More than 35,000 visitors in four days have been to the earthquake relief photo show, held in Beijing by the Chinese government to commemorate victims and survivors of the 8.0-magnitude earthquake that hit southwest China's Sichuan Province on May 12.
The show opened on June 10 at the Chinese People's Revolutionary Military Museum.
Pictures were mostly taken by reporters and some were very popular online, such as the picture of a local policewoman who breast-fed an orphaned infant. Another picture showed a boy having been dug out from quake ruins saluting his rescuers.
"When I see these pictures, I want to cry, but I cannot cry because I'm a soldier," said Zhang Pengfei from the Armed Police General Hospital.
The show was hosted by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the State Council Information Office and the Xinhua News Agency.
The death toll of the earthquake increased by four overnight to 69,163 as of Friday noon, the State Council Information Office said. A total of 374,142 people were injured and 17,445 were still missing.
