The disaster relief headquarters of southwest China's Sichuan Province has set up a working team specially for parents of students killed in the May 12 earthquake, the Sichuan provincial government said on Wednesday afternoon.

Four instruction teams whose staff were transferred from units directly under the provincial government, rushed to Chengdu, Deyang, Mianyang and Guangyuan to carry out the work, the provincial government said at a news briefing.

In the devastating quake, which had left 69,122 people dead in the province as of Wednesday noon, numerous school buildings collapsed and many students were killed or injured, bringing great misfortune to their families.

Some bereaved parents questioned the quality of the school buildings' construction and asked authorities to intervene.

"All school buildings" in the earthquake-ravaged areas would be appraised, said a statement issued by the earthquake relief headquarters of the State Council, the country's Cabinet, on Friday.

The headquarters asked the relevant authorities to conduct scientific appraisals and collect and keep necessary documents and samples to provide references for the overall planning of the reconstruction.
