Earthquake Death Toll Rises to 67,183

The death toll in China's major earthquake increased by more than 2,100 to 67,183 as of midday Tuesday, according to the State Council Information Office.

A total of 361,822 people were injured and 20,790 others were missing in the 8.0-magnitude quake that jolted southwestern Sichuan Province on May 12.

More than 45.61 million people were affected in the deadly quake, and about 15 million have been evacuated, according to the office.

Hospitals have treated 84,810 injured people, of whom, 54,374 have been discharged, 16,288 still remain in hospital and 6,363 were transferred to other parts of China for treatment.

As of Monday, disaster relief workers had relocated 698,302 people to safe areas, and dug 6,541 survivors out of quake ruins.

By Tuesday noon, Beichuan township was still out of electricity. The electricity in the counties of Jiangyou and Pengzhou have been restored.
