Malaysian Party Donates 1,895 Tents to Quake-hit China

The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) announced here on Friday that it donates 1,895 tents to China's earthquake-hit Sichuan Province.

The largest Malaysian Chinese political party said that the tents worth 200,000 ringgit (US$62,300) could accommodate more than 10,160 people and would be sent to the disaster-struck regions soon.

MCA said that it purchased these tents from a local firm shortly after learning that China's earthquake-struck regions urgently need these goods for shelter.

MCA said that it has been calling its members to make donation to China's earthquake-hit regions.

MCA also said that it so far has collected a total of 530,000 ringgit (US$165,000) which would be transferred to the quake-hit regions through China's embassy here.

Earlier this month, MCA handed over a cash donation totaling 330,000 ringgit (US$103,000) to help disaster relief in China.
