The 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck at 2:28 on Monday afternoon, with its epicenter in Wenchuan County. The State Council disaster relief center's most recent report puts the death toll at 14,866.

Most of the dead were in Sichuan Province with fourteen thousand four hundred and sixty-three. The death toll in neighboring Gansu Province was 280, Shaanxi 106, 14 in Chongqing Municipality and 2 deaths in Henan and one in Yunnan Province.

This afternoon, the national Seismological Bureau said there had been 18 aftershocks over 5 magnitude, with the biggest at 6.1 on the Richter's Scale.
