Shanghai traffic authorities have installed surveillance cameras on 1,600 buses passing around an Olympic Games football venue.
The buses operate on 68 routes passing near the Shanghai Stadium hosting 12 Olympic football matches during the August 8 to August 24 Games, a Shanghai Municipal Urban Traffic Management Bureau spokesman said Monday.
"The bus video surveillance systems will continue to be used after the Games as a long-term measure to ensure public security," he said.
Similar systems are now being installed on 36 subway trains on two lines.
The Shanghai Stadium has been closed for security checks since July 20, with police and armed police conducting round-the-clock patrols.
