This week's meeting of world leaders in London will help to speed up a global economic recovery, Australian Finance Minister Lindsay Tanner said on Monday.

"All of those issues are pretty important to the question of how quickly we see economic normality being resumed," Tanner told ABC Radio.

Tanner said the meeting is likely to result in a commitment to further stimulus spending.

Greater regulation of the global financial sector, a boost in aid to developing nations and reforming global institutions will also be discussed.

Leaders of the world's 20 largest economies including Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd will meet on Thursday to discuss, among other things, a global response to the economic downturn.
