Tokyo stocks tumbled on Wednesday following an overnight fall on Wall Street.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 237.84 points, or 2.69 percent, from Tuesday to 8,595.01.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 17.34 points, or 2.08 percent, to 815.26.
