Mexican President Felipe Calderon and former US Vice President Al Gore Tuesday reiterated the importance of reaching agreements at the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen this December.

Calderon and Gore said this is the only way to break the impasse of the multilateral negotiations and work more efficiently to address the climate change.

Calderon met Gore, 2007 Nobel Prize laureate for his effort on curbing climate change, at the presidential house Los Pinos in Mexico City.

During the meeting Calderon and Gore discussed issues related to preserving environment, climate change and the potential areas of cooperation related between Mexico and the US.

Calderon and Gore exchanged their view on the current international climate change negotiations.

Calderon said that some countries have achieved important progress with action plans, but it is still urgent to take multilateral and concrete steps to surpass the obstacles and the difference between developed and developing nations.

"In this way we can achieve important agreements on lightening, adaptation, financing and technology to face the climate change," said Calderon who congratulated Gore for his effort on curbing climate change.
