European Parliament vice president voices support to early signing of EU-Vietnam FTA

Xinhua, March 31, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Parliament (EP) stands ready to work together with the Vietnam National Assembly (NA) across sectors and will make efforts for the early signing and implementation of the Vietnam-European Union Free Trade Agreement, said EP Vice President Dimitrios Papadimoulis here on Tuesday.

Dimitrios Papadimoulis is in Hanoi to attend the 132nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and related meetings.

Speaking at the meeting with Chairman of Vietnam's NA Nguyen Sinh Hung on Tuesday, Dimitrios Papadimoulis expressed his hope that the Vietnam NA and the EP will promote exchanges of delegations to further boost parliamentary relations, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA.

The Vietnamese top legislator, for his part, emphasized the important role of the EP in enhancing Vietnam-EU partnership, saying Vietnamese NA is willing to share information with the EP on issues of common interest in a cooperative and constructive manner.

Earlier in January this year, the EU and Vietnam completed the 11th round of negotiations for an FTA. The two sides announced the start of bilateral FTA negotiations in Brussels in June 2012. Endi
